I am trying to create a new keyboard shortcut set in InDesign CS2 following the "Help" instructions. When I click on Create New Set I get an error message of: Can't create a file for the set "Steffes": a disk error occurred. (Steffes being the name of the new set I would like to create.) I am want to base the new set off the Default Set so I have that selected. Am I missing something?

You just want one new short cut?
[assuming you're going "Edit" "Keyboard Shortcuts"] Select the function from the organized drop down, perform the short cut you want, i.e. ctrl+D for example, click OK. If the short cut existed it will be wiped and replaced with new function. I don't ever mess with the "sets" junk so I can't be of any use to you there, but for one new short cut this is easy. For example, I changed the command for "Paste In Place" because I was getting a cramp in my little finger trying to hit shift+ctrl+Alt+V all at the same time. :)

I am trying to make a keyboard shortcut for Merge Cells in the Tables, There is no existing shortcut for that and InDesign will not let me edit or add to the Default set (that is probably a good idea). But it won't let me make a copy of the Default set or save a new set. So no...I am not editing a shortcut. I want to make a new one.
Thanks for trying!

Elaine,

you probably have no write-permission in the application folder of your mac.

Open the folder "Your Harddisk:applications:Adobe InDesign CS2:Presets:" and select the folder "shortcut sets".
Hit cmd I
Inspect the bottom half of the opening dialog. Do you have write permission?

I never understood why shortcut sets are not saved in the users preference folder along with practically all other settings. Which settings are personal if not the shortcuts?

Gerald Singelmann,

You were so right! I had to unlock and make all the options Read and Write for that folder and voila! I have my new shortcut that I really need on this huge project. I agree...why have something set up to go into a folder that is locked. Thank you, thank you, thank you! You have just made my day!
