You don't even need a master frame. Just shift click when placing the
text. ID will create the frames based on the margins and create new
pages to fill up the document.

InDesign does it automatically. If you have one text frame on a master, that frame is perpetually linked to it's brothers on every page (for the purpose of autoflow only). Any frames you link on a spread will work with Autoflow.

If you DO have text frames on the Master, it is not necessary to override or select the text frame in order to place the text. When importing the text, move the cursor over the page to the position of the master page text frame on your document spread (not the master page). The shape of the loaded cursor should change from an angled brace on the upper left side to a pair of curved shapes like parenthesis on either side of some lines (representing a paragraph).

Don't click Yet! If you do, it will flow to that page only!

Hold down the SHIFT key. The cursor will change again. This time the lines resembling a paragraph will change into a 'S' shaped arrow. This indicates that the text will auto flow. NOW click.

The text should auto flow, creating new pages as needed.

It's not working for me. Where do I insert the text, on the master OR the first actual page? Also, if it's the first actual page, should I override master page items, if not how do I select the box without doing that?

I recommend acquiring a third party book on InDesign. The Visual Quickstart guide for InDesign CS2 by Sandee Cohen is an excellent resource. She explains things such as this in enought detail to get you started when you are stuck with something.

When I first started working with InDesign's master pages and text autoflow, her book helped set me straight on things I was confused about.

You might also gain some insights from the indesignsecrets.com site. Lots of good tips there.

And of course, the forum here is good, too.
