Discussion:
increase text size in Adobe Help Center

I've look everywhere (inlcuding in help itself); in all CS2 Help Centers and can't find how to increase the text so I can more easily view it on my screen.
Is there a way to do this? If not it's incredibly frustrating and I don't understand why Adobe wouldn't make using help the most pleasurable experience it could be.

If you know how to do this please help.
I am on a Mac G4

I'm still using InDesign 2, so I don't know if this applies, but Help opens in a browser window. Both browsers I use (Firefox and Explorer) have in the View menu an option for varying the text size.

cmd-+/cmd-- (minus symbol) will usually increase/decrease text size.

claudio - the help in ID CS2 is not browserbased - it is a separate application.

The Adobe Help Center will not enlarge fonts with the usual shortcuts.

If you however have Tiger and OS X 10.4.8 you can ctrl+scroll with the mouse to zoom in and out in any applciation, including the Adobe Help Center pages - but only if you have 10.4.8, not earlier. Alternatively turn Universal Access zooming on in System preferences.

It's Opera based.

wow thank you. I didn't know about that little jewel. It's weird how everything enlarges.
I am definitely going to complain to Adobe about this problem...what do people on PC'S do?
For the cost of the suite I can't believe they missed something so simply and vital.

If anyone has any idea of where I could send my complaint to (without having to search for days) please let me know.

thanks everyone for your replies...very helpful little community this is :D

I don't really understand your reply. It's Opera based means that's the type of program?? How is that related to my question?

thanks

Nina, how many hats do you have from which to take things out? And yes, I know I should upgrade, but I don't use InDesign very much and 2.0.2 has all I need, and more.

But in this case the built in one not a standalone browser of your choice. You cannot actually "see" Opera - you just see the Help Center application pages and it has no similarity whatsoever to the behavior of a regular webbrowser application.

No guarantees, but it appears that Adobe is moving in the new direction for its new products for a help system.

Acrobat 8 Professional is now out, and instead of the Adobe Help Center, they have a new Adobe application called Adobe Help Viewer 1.0. It has a somewhat simpler interface than Adobe Help Center, but it seems to work quite well. And when I tested, Command+Shift+Equals does zoom in. Command+Hyphen zooms out. It's not documented, and in fact, there's a sound each time you hit the keystroke as if you were hitting inoperative keystrokes, but it does work.

That Acrobat 8 does something in a new way doesn't say anything about what is to come in any of the other apps. Acrobat has always gone its own way with eveything - be it the Help or the UI or anything.

I found it! I found it!
I too have always hated the tiny text in the Adobe Help System, and none of my ordinary Zoom tricks seems to work... till just now!

Now this may not work for everyone - I've got a scroll wheel mouse, using third party "Steermouse" driver, but here's the miracle:

I Command/ScrollWheel and the text zooms up or down, just like in a browser! I'm so happy!

Here's a screenshot so you can see it to believe it!

SilverDollar - I guess you are on OS X 10.4.8? That feature was added to 10.4.8 but does not exist in earlier OS-versions. And it is crl+scrolling, not cmd.

Hi Nini -

You're correct, I am running 10.4.8.

But the zoom I'm getting is not the Control/Scroll zoom, which zooms the entire display, but I am using Cmd/Scroll, and seeing just the text, in the right hand pane of the help screen, increase in point size. Have a look at the screen shot (link in my last post)

Thanks for pointing out the Control/Scroll zoom trick, It's cool and works throughout the computer - but I'm really excited to at last be able to increase the point size in the help system.

Again, this may not be reproducible on everyone's system. Oddly, I can't find a Cmd-keystroke equivalent. It only works with the scroll wheel, and I can only speak for my own software configuration.

thank you so much!
On my Microsoft ergonomic keyboard (obviously PC but I'm on a Mac running the same operating system as you Silver Dollar) it's ALT then scroll on your mouse and it's great! So much better than just having the whole screen enlarged....that was annoying.

I wish we could get this out there to everyone because it's such a handy tip that Adobe doesn't provide.

thanks again

Well, after reading this, I had to go try it.

I'm running 10.3.9 with a Kensington mouse (2-button plus scroll wheel) with Mouseworks software.

And believe it or not, Command-Scroll does increase and decrease the size of just the type in the Adobe Help Centers of InDesign CS2, Illustrator CS2, and Photoshop CS2.
